With gasoline hovering near four dollars a gallon, many Americans are cutting their budgets to make compensate for higher fuel costs. One area that’s ripe for cutting is clothing expenses.
Most of us spend a lot more on clothing than we have to and probably won’t notice the difference between name brand tube socks and generics. That said, there are some items that are worth paying full price for, even when there’s a cheaper alternative.
Shoes are one item that’s usually worth the full retail price. While there’s nothing wrong with discount womens shoes, they simply aren’t made to be as sturdy as the name brand shoes. And if you’re going to be on your feet for any length of time, you’ll definitely notice the difference between well made shoes and not-so-well-made shoes.
Other items, like dresses and blouses, don’t see the same kind of stress as shoes do. Buying discount dresses on sale is very different than buying a no name pair of shoes. The same idea holds true for socks, underwear and pants. But bras are a totally different story. Women who are comfortable with their current bra have no reason to switch.
Cutting back on clothing expenses may be a necessity. But wearing uncomfortable shoes is another matter entirely.
